Illogical atheists
Looking past the primal threat of this ‘meme,’ may I remind that we have grown into a species that can identify and communicate with each other, and that we can live peacefully without religion. Though I wouldn’t say it is the most prominent reason for war, it does play a part. Both of the events stated are mutually exclusive.
That said, Atheism doesn’t exist to discredit religion for our problems, nor abolish it. It exists to encourage a further understanding of the world, which pertains to a lot of what makes people uncomfortable. If it didn’t, there wouldn’t be religion in the first place.
Speaking very personally, I am mostly agnostic, because I don’t think we can ever be sure how everything began. It is far beyond us. Though, I do side with Atheism for questioning what some religions would otherwise claim to be absolute. I find religion to be a deflection of disheartening news. If I have learned anything, it is that nothing is absolute. We as humans, with the luxury of critical minds, should not let our thinking be done for us.
The blunt of it is, I would love to believe that there is a life after death, but I cannot. As a person, it’s not fair to assume this belief of others, nor can I be threatened into believing otherwise. Everything decays, and without the countless breakthroughs of science to assist us in living healthy lives, this would happen much sooner.
This just got heavy, and now I’m exhausted. If anyone wants to speak of this further, I am all for learning of the beliefs of others, and conducting constructive debate. Shoot me a message.
